Safely connecting the Teifi Valley Communities.

Cysylltu Cymunedau Dyffryn Teifi yn ddiogel.

Grŵp Cymunedol Trac Teifi Community Group

About our group

We are a community group with ambitions to provide safe access for walkers, runners, cyclists, mobilty scooter users, equestirans - basically any non-vehiclular traffic - along the Teifi Valley.

Starting around a kitchen table in Pentrecagal we have expanded up and down the Teifi Valley, working on options for access between our fellow communities in the Teifi Valley and Newcastle Emlyn. Re-establishing access along the disused railway line is one exciting option for this.

At the moment we are in the early stages - gathering public interest and ideas, talking to landowners, working with the councils and other groups to see what's possible and what's best.

Am ein grŵp

Rydym yn grŵp cymunedol sydd ag uchelgeisiau i ddarparu mynediad diogel i gerddwyr, rhedwyr, beicwyr, defnyddwyr sgwter symudedd, marchogion - unrhyw draffig nad yw'n gerbydau yn y bôn - ar hyd Dyffryn Teifi.

Gan ddechrau o amgylch bwrdd cegin ym Mhentrecagal rydym wedi ehangu i fyny ac i lawr Dyffryn Teifi, gan weithio ar opsiynau ar gyfer mynediad rhwng ein cyd-gymunedau yn Nyffryn Teifi a Newcastle Emlyn. Mae ailsefydlu mynediad ar hyd y rheilffordd segur yn un opsiwn cyffrous ar gyfer hyn.

Ar hyn o bryd rydym yn y camau cynnar - yn casglu diddordeb a syniadau'r cyhoedd, yn siarad â pherchnogion tir, yn gweithio gyda'r cynghorau a grwpiau eraill i weld beth sy'n bosibl a beth sydd orau.

Did you enjoy the walk ? Did it give you a glimpse of what we are trying to achieve ? We hope so.

On Sunday morning approx 170 people, including babies in slings, young children, young adults, parents, grandparents, a guide dog and owner, U3A members, County Councillor Wyn Thomas and 3 community councillors and various dogs turned out for a 4km walk in support of safe off road access in the Teifi Valley.

Organisers were delighted at the turn out which was supported by all sectors of the community. People were present from not only Newcastle Emlyn, but also most of the surrounding villages, Llandysul and even Cardigan where there are similar hopes for the old railway line there.

People had heard about the walk though word of mouth, the story in the Teifiside and on line; one woman who lives locally had been told about the walk by her brother who lives in North Wales who had seen it online! More would have been there if they could; MP Ben Lake, County Councillor Hazel Evans, Emlyn Mayor Alan Jones and Coimmunity Councillor Alan Davies all sent their apologies.

The walkers heard at the start that Carmarthenshire County Council have recently confirmed their intention to look at a feasibility study and are waiting for confirmation of a site visit." We are not over the line yet though and intend to keep up the pressure" said Anna Thompson of Pentrecagal. One of the reasons organisers feel this area has been so neglected in this respect is that the community is divided by the River Teifi, the County boundary. This project ultimately will need Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion to work together to achieve good access for both communities. ....but "a great place to start would be the old railway line which runs right next to the main road on the eastern approach to Newcastle Emlyn." said Christine Davies, "this is a very dangerous piece of road".
There was a great atmosphere as people left in socially distanced groups of 30 with a steward at each end and stewards to escort each group over the road. All were in agreement; safe, off road access is essential and something that the community desperately needs. " We want to be able to leave our cars behind. Many of the journeys that we make are short; traveling to school, shopping and pre covid visiting friends. We are poorly served by local transport, but many of us are fit enough to get locally under our own steam if there was safe access off the main roads. The railway line would appear to offer the ideal opportunity. We need to set up healthy habits for life", said Sian Own of Llandysul.

Organisers would like to thank the land owners for allowing access to the walkers onto what is normally private land.

There is still chance for people to give their feedback on how they would like to see off road, traffic free travel developed in the area by completing the online consultation for Carmarthenshire; it is open until Sept 1st......
